Chuka Umunna MP will be attending the celebrations on 1st October and will give a keynote speech at 11.30.



He reported from the USA on the historic election of Barack Obama in November 2008, and won the RTS foreign news award the same year for narrating a feature on the 'surge' in Iraq.

He reported from the Gulf Coast when Hurricane Katrina destroyed New Orleans; visited Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to investigate the legal rights of 'enemy combatants'; and covered the political impact of the Iraq war from Washington. He also produced Channel 4 News's 2006 mid-terms coverage.

Keme joined Channel 4 News in 2001 as a Sports producer, transferred to the Home Affairs unit in 2003, moved to Washington in 2005, and returned to the UK in 2007.
His domestic interests range from criminal justice to sports. He regularly anchors More 4 News, and co-presents Channel 4 News.

Professional Biography

An international practice,(with an emphasis on Africa), comprising extensive advocacy and advisory experience on behalf of private and institutional clients both here and abroad, in business and general crime, corrupt practices, commercial litigation and health and safety. His work abroad is mainly in Africa advising companies doing business and litigating on this continent, particularly in Nigeria. He regularly advises the Nigerian National Petroleum Company in contractual disputes as well advising the Nigerian government on the legal consequences of corrupt or tainted contracts He has been called as an expert witness several times in cases involving Nigerian Law. He has worked in jurisdictions as disparate as Germany, Cayman Islands, Nigeria, Malawi and Tanzania. He has also undertaken work for the DTI, including insolvent trading and directors disqualification. He has prosecuted regularly for H.M Revenue & Customs.





Tom Ilube

Founder and Chairman of the African Gifted Foundation, a new African Academy for gifted and talented young people. He is also Governor/Trustee of three City Academies in the UK, including Chairman of Hammersmith Academy, due to open in 2011 and set to be one of the UK’s most innovative new technology schools.

Tom is Founder of Garlik, the online identity protection company with offices in London and New York. Garlik was selected as a World Economic Forum, Davos 2008 Technology Pioneer. Tom has been an innovator in the technology industry for over 20 years and is an international expert in cyber-security. He served the International Telecoms Union, a Geneva-based UN-agency, as a member of the High Level Expert Group on Cybercrime and is Chairman of the UK Technology Strategy Board’s Network Security Innovation Platform. Tom comments regularly in the media and at conferences on identity theft and cyber-security issues.

Tom was educated in the UK, Nigeria and Uganda. He read Applied Physics at the University of Benin, Nigeria and obtained an MBA (Finance) at Cass Business School, London. He is a Fellow of the British Computer Society, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and in 2005 Tom was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Technology for his contribution to the field of technology in the UK.





Ken Olisa OBE FBCS CITP

Ken's technology career spans over 30 years, commencing as an IBM Scholar at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge. At IBM (UK) he held various posts in systems engineering, sales and marketing, before joining Wang Laboratories in 1981.

At Wang he worked in sales, marketing, R&D and general management in the UK, USA and Belgium. He was head of US marketing and finally Senior Vice President and General Manager of Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

In 1992, Ken moved on to test his entrepreneurial mettle by founding Interregnum, the technology merchant bank which floated on the AIM exchange in 2000.

After Interregnum he founded a boutique technology merchant bank - Restoration Partners - in 2006. His current public company appointments include Directorships at Thomson Reuters and FTSE100 Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation.

Ken is Chairman of Thames Reach (a charity working to shelter and resettle the homeless in London) and a Warden of the Information Technologists’ Livery Company.





Dr John Ebohon

Reader in Energy, Sustainability and Development at De Montfort University in Leicester, and Director of the Developing World Built Environment Research Unit at De Montfort. His teaching and research interests are in the fields of energy, sustainability and development, built environment economics and finance institutions, and the process of economic development, technology transfer, and construction multinationals.

He has published widely and contributed papers to international conferences and seminars in these fields, especially with regards to sub-Saharan Africa.
